Gayle Wald
Professor of American Studies
Gayle Wald joined GWU's faculty in 1995, after receiving her PhD in English from Princeton. She is the author of three books about American and African American culture, including Shout, Sister, Shout!, an acclaimed biography of the gospel trailblazer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, which is the basis for a musical coming to Ford's Theater in spring 2023. A recipient of fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Guggenheim Foundation, Prof. Wald co-chaired the undergraduate education committee of GW's 2019-20 Strategic Planning initiative.
