Search Committee Charge

CHARGE BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

OF THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY

TO THE PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE

May 2022

  1. The committee members are asked to represent the University as a whole, rather than any particular constituency.

  2. The committee will recommend one or more search firms to assist the committee in fulfilling its charge based upon the search firms’ demonstrated ability to recruit highly qualified leaders through innovative approaches especially in the extremely competitive marketplace for university presidents.

  3. The committee will recommend a statement of the desired experience, qualifications, and personal characteristics of the next President, which is inclusive, reasonably broad, and reflective of GW’s future priorities.

  4. The committee, working with the search firm, will conduct an aggressive search for extraordinary leaders with diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

  5. The committee will recommend no fewer than two and no more than four non-ranked finalists to the Board of Trustees.

  6. The committee will be creative and flexible while ensuring the integrity of the search process.

  7. The committee members must commit to absolute confidentiality on all aspects of the search and agree that only the chair of the search committee or chair of the Board of Trustees will comment on the search.

  8. The committee members will make this work a priority and endeavor to complete the committee’s work effectively and efficiently.

  9. The committee will enhance the distinction, prestige, and integrity of the University by the way it conducts the search.

The committee will be staffed by Vice President Aristide Collins and Assistant Vice President Jonathan Post.
